The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) was established in 1966 as one of Sweden's leading academic institutions dedicated to the study of peace and security. The purpose of the organization is to conduct independent research on international conflicts and coordination activities that have a significant impact on international peace and security, mainly in the areas of military weapons development, arms trade and production, and disarmament and demilitarization, etc. In 2009, SIPRI was ranked third in the index of non-U.S. foreign policy think tanks. It is worth noting that all of SIPRI's research is based on and sourced in a completely open manner.
