World Meteorological Organization

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, formerly known as the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), which was founded in 1873, officially renamed the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1950, and became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1951.WMO's objectives include promoting cooperation among countries in the field of meteorological and hydrological observations, and promoting the standardization of meteorological observations. The purposes of WMO include promoting cooperation among countries, working together on meteorological, hydrological and other observations, and promoting the standardization of meteorological observations.
