The National Music Awards (American Music Award; abbreviation: AMA) is one of the three most authoritative music award shows in the United States, the remaining two are the Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards, was founded by Dick Clark in 1973. The difference between the three major U.S. music awards shows is that - the Grammy takes the elite route; the Billboard Music Awards takes the data route; and the AMA is recognized as the most representative of the mainstream music business indicators, the awards are voted on by consumers. Michael Jackson, along with Whitney Houston, holds the record for the most wins at the AMAs.
