The Pulitzer Prize, also known as the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism, is an award established in 1917 in accordance with the wishes of American newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer, and is sponsored by Columbia University to recognize excellence in journalism, literature, and music. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism became the highest honor in American journalism.
