The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London was launched in November 1958 by a coalition of British academics, politicians, religious and journalists, initially known as the Brighton Society, and in 1971 was officially renamed the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. The institute is a leading British think tank specializing in defense security and defense policy in the nuclear age, with three main functions: an institute function, an intelligence center function, and a forum function. Its funding comes from members' membership fees, income from publications and donations from foundations (such as the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation in the United States, and the Krupp Foundation in the Federal Republic of Germany, etc.), enterprises and organizations, of which the main publications include Military Power Comparison, Strategic Studies and the Annual Conference Report.
