Focus magazine is Germany's third-largest weekly news magazine and the arch-rival of Germany's Der Spiegel. It was founded on January 18, 1993 by Helmut Markwort, a famous German journalist, and Hubert Burda, head of the German Hubert Burda Media Group, and its main readership is the social elite. The magazine's typography is characterized by colorful images and classic infographics, and its viewpoints are skewed toward political conservatism and economic liberalism. In addition, the weekly has two subseries, FOCUS-MONEY (launched in March 2000) and FOCUS-Education (launched in January 2005).
