Waste Management (WM), North America's largest integrated waste management company, was founded in 1968; it was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1971 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. As of 2013, WM had 390 recycling sites, 310 transfer stations, 267 landfill plants, 17 waste-to-energy plants, 120 resource recovery plants, 137 landfill gas projects and 36 organic processing facilities, providing environmental protection services to nearly 21 million customers in North America.
