Ferrari is the world's top manufacturer of sports and racing cars. It was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 and is headquartered in Maranello, near Modena, Italy. Initially, Ferrari focused on sponsoring racing drivers and producing racing cars, and then started to produce cars independently in 1947. Ferrari is owned by FIAT, one of the world's ten largest automobile manufacturing companies, but operates independently of FIAT. The production of Ferrari cars is very low as most of them are handmade, and the best sales performance in Ferrari's history in 2011 was only 7,195 units.
