The Detroit Institute of Arts, founded in 1885 and owned by the city of Detroit, calls itself the sixth largest museum in the United States, and in 2003 was named the second largest city-owned museum in the United States. The museum has more than 100 galleries with an extensive collection of famous art treasures from all over the world, including Auguste Rodin's sculpture "The Thinker", Van Gogh's "Self-Portrait" and other noted works of art.
