The Berlin International Film Festival (English: Berlin International Film Festival; German: Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin; Berlinale), together with the Academy Awards, the Venice Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival, is known as the four most important awards in the world film industry. It was initiated by Alfred Bauer in 1951, and the highest award is the Golden Bear. Since 2002, the Berlinale has been affiliated with the Berliner Kunstverein GmbH.
